Wegen der Pandemie™. Eine Wahl in Wahllokalen hätte ein höheres Infektionsrisiko. Außerdem sind derzeit weniger Studierende in den Universitätsgebäuden unterwegs, was sich negativ auf die Wahlbeteiligung ausgewirkt hätte.

Because of the pandemic, duh. Voting in polling stations has an increased risk of infection compared to vote by mail. Also, fewer students are currently roaming around university buildings, so the turnout would have definitely taken a huge hit.

Eine geheime Wahl über Computersysteme ist nicht möglich, ohne dabei Wahlgrundsätze zu verletzen. Die wesentlichen Schritte der Wahlhandlung und der Ergebnisermittlung müssen von Wahlberechtigten zuverlässig und ohne besondere Sachkenntnis überprüft werden können (vgl. 2 BvC 3/07). Das ist offensichtlich nicht der Fall, sobald das über Computersysteme geschieht.

It is not possible to conduct a secret election using computer systems without violating basic principles of secret elections. The essential steps of the electoral process and the determination of the results must be verifiable by voters reliably and without special expertise (see 2 BvC 3/07). As soon as votes are casted using computer systems, this is obviously no longer the case.

Das spart Porto. Bei jeweils knapp unter 38.000 Wahlberechtigten, die angeschrieben werden, eine Menge Geld.

Die Wahlunterlagen für die Studierendenparlamentswahl und für die Gremienwahlen werden euch gemeinsam zugesendet, da dies eine Menge Porto spart. Für die Auszählungen ist es jedoch sehr viel praktischer, wenn die Stimmzettel für SP und Gremien in getrennten Umschlägen zurückkommen.

The voting materials for the election of the student parliament and for the elections of the university's committees are sent to you together in one big envelope because that saves us a lot of postage. For the purpose of counting the votes however, it is much more practical to have separate return letters for the student parliament and for the university's committees.
